Rusticity, simplicity, authenticity, these are the three watchwords of an epic trattoria, with pesto and fried food of legend.

One of Genoa's historic trattorie, opened in 1969. The rustic dining room has retained all its charm: exposed beams, checkered tablecloths and copper pots hanging from the walls. The atmosphere is friendly and good-natured, and you'll never be disappointed. The menu features traditional Genoese dishes. Specialties include fried stuffed anchovies, squid ink tagliatelle, eggplant fritters and minestrone alla genovese (vegetable soup seasoned with pesto). Don't forget the daily specials, which follow market arrivals (especially meat and fish).

Era 15 anni e forse più che non mi recavo in questa trattoria e, neanche troppo sorpreso, ho trovato lo stesso ambiente di allora. Certo, ai tavoli non c'è il mitico Ugo che oggi si gode il riposo meritato, neppure il figlio che, come il padre, ha deciso di godersi un po' di spazio per lui. C'è però il nipote che con capacità, professionalità e simpatia non ha nulla da invidiare a chi lo ha preceduto nell' attività. Il cibo?
