There are two main train stations in Genoa, Brignole (east) and Principe (west), at almost equal distance from the center, which can be reached on foot or by bus. Luggage lockers in both. Principe is the main rail hub of the area, but most trains also stop in Brignole. The metro connects the two in a few minutes (tickets available at tobacconists). For any connection with France, change trains in Ventimiglia, from there direct trains to Nice and Menton. Otherwise, you have to go through Milan or Turin.

Built in 1929, the Montegalletto elevator provides access to the heights of Genoa. The system is unique in Europe, and operates in a highly ingenious way. First, a small cabin transports you like a funicular along the rails of a horizontal gallery for around 300 meters... then suddenly, the gallery is embedded in a cavity, and the click: the cabin rises gently and is immediately transformed into an elevator! A unique experience well worth the detour, if only to experience the ingenuity of the mechanism.

Passenger traffic through the port of Genoa is very heavy every year. The Stazione Marittima has several berths for cruise ships, just a few steps from the Porto Antico and the historic center. From the Terminal Traghetti, ships arrive and depart for the main Mediterranean ports: Olbia, Arbatax and Porto Torres in Sardinia, Bastia in Corsica, Palermo in Sicily and, further afield, Barcelona, Tunis and Tangiers.
