Ouistreham’s famous red-and-white lighthouse, one of the town’s landmarks and a source of pride for its inhabitants. It was commissioned in 1905 to replace its predecessor, built in 1886, and automated in 1993. Standing 38 metres high and visible for 16 nautical miles around, it is the guardian of the Orne estuary. It warns of the dangerous rocks of Calvados 7.5 miles away, thanks to a red sector showing sailors the direction. Don’t hesitate to climb the 171 steps to access the optic. The view is breathtaking.
