Imposing and famous stone sea fortress built around 1100 B.C. on a 90-metre cliff at Inishmore
On the south coast of the island of Inishmore, Dun Aengus is an imposing and famous stone sea fortress, built around 1100 B.C. on a 90-meter cliff. Some researchers believe that the original building must have been protected by three circular enclosures, so the other half of what we see today would have been lost to Galway Bay through a cliff collapse. From up there, the views are superb. The site, which falls steeply into the ocean, can however be dangerous.
