Remarkable megalithic dolmen, one of the largest in Ireland and even Europe, sealing a 5,000-year-old burial site

Brownshill Dolmen (Dolmain Chnoc an Bhrúnaigh in Gaelic), one of the most imposing in Ireland and even in Europe, lies peacefully in the middle of the fields three kilometres east of the town of Carlow. This 5,000-year-old burial site, classified as a national monument by the Republic of Ireland, is particularly well preserved and is sealed by a block of stone at the top, known as the "table", supposedly weighing more than 150 tonnes. The mystery remains as to the handling of these gigantic granite blocks during the megalithic period...

Very easily accessible, on the main road leading to Carlow, Brownshill Dolmen is located in the heart of a field. A pedestrian path leaves the small free parking and allows you to reach it after 3 minute walk.

Known as the largest Dolmen in Europe, impressive by its size and the superior block of stone, which would weigh more than 100 tons.
