Bloomsday is an Irish festival held in Dublin to celebrate the life of writer James Joyce. June 16, the closing date of the 6-day festival, corresponds to the day on which the action ofUlysses and Leopold Bloom's wanderings through Dublin in 1904 take place. This day has been celebrated since 1954, and every year James Joyce fans dress up in early ^20th-century clothes and walk around the city quoting passages from the work. There are also numerous street performances, sketches and readings.
