KRISTIANSTAD FORTIFICATIONS

Since its foundation in 1614 until 1837, Kristianstad was a fortress passed successively in Danish and Swedish hands. Considered one of the most modern of the th century in Northern Europe, it was protected by a rectangular wall defended by numerous state-of-the-art bastions, and surrounded by water. Today, the north-east bastion (Bastionen Konungen) is the only visible one, with some remaining cannons and the route of the creek that leaves the shape of the ancient fortification.
