A televised national music festival, a bit kitsch but fun, determining the next Swedish Eurovision candidates!

The Melodifestivalen, or Melody Festival, is an annual song contest organized by the Swedish public media. It determines the country's representative for the next Eurovision Song Contest, and has been held almost every year since 1959. The winners consistently become national stars, including the iconic band ABBA. Millions of Swedes watch the competition every year, becoming a real talking point for the locals. Since the festival's inception, Sweden has had six Eurovision winners.
