Several fishing villages along the beach from Grand-Popo to the Togolese border
From Grand-Popo to the Togolese border, several fishing villages follow one another along the beach. The Hula and the Xwla (called Popo by the Portuguese) are fishermen who know how to pass the impressive bar with their pirogue. It is a real spectacle to see them, at dawn, energetically taming the wave. It is not uncommon to see a collective fishing gathering a whole village. Then, the catches are shared according to well established rules. Also to be seen, from July to March, the big sea turtles.

Originality
The fishing village in its entirety, men, women and children take part in this spectacular collective fishing efforts and fight against the elements. They accept happily that tourists attend, in the state of remaining discreet and not taking pictures. But this last point can be negotiated with old for 5000 cfa francs. With a bit of luck you can between 500 and 1000 cfa buy bars or lobster 1000 to 1500 cfa room that you will roast char-grilled the evening.

Les filets sont ensuite tirés depuis la plage par tout le village, parfois une cinquantaine de personnes.
A Grand Popo j’ai même rencontré des pêcheurs venus du Ghana !
