Trek to Batutumong, a walk rewarded by breathtaking views of Toraja roofs, rice paddies and more.
To get to Batutumonga (recommended stopover), leave town to the north (not on the Palopo road), turning left after the bridge. Follow this road to the first intersection. Turn left, cross the bridge and walk 1,500 m to a new intersection where you fork right. Here begins a 3-hour climb. At the top, you'll find the village of Batutumonga on the right-hand side of the road. On arrival, a breathtaking view of the entire valley, with its endless rice paddies dotted with magnificent Toraja roofs.
