This superb building which housed the French Company of the Ivory Coast, founded in 1905 on the bases of Verdier's Kong Company, remained in very good condition for a long time. Jean-Jacques Shnegg, a Swiss graphic designer, had refurbished it as an art gallery and a creative and associative space, but today its hermetically sealed shutters and its once lush garden with its anarchic greenery inspire mixed feelings among the Bassamois, some of whom go so far as to say that it is not good to walk too close to the abandoned building at night.
