Hotel Brandan is a green four star superior hotel. It is located in the heart of Gundadalur, only a few minutes walk from Tórshavn town square, the main shopping center, the national soccer stadium and the sports center. The Brandan Hotel in Tórshavn is named after Saint Brendan (484 - 577), who was an Irish monk and the first person named to reach the Faroe Islands. St. Brendan, known as St. Brendan the Navigator, was an adventurer and braved the high seas to explore the islands and the mainland. In his logs, St. Brendan recorded his journey to the Faroe Islands describing how he sailed from island to island and walked through the mountains.
Hotel Brandan in Tórshavn consistently sets the bar high for its environmentally friendly policies and strives to minimize its environmental footprint. In September 2020, we achieved Green Key certification - the international eco-label for the hotel industry. It is awarded to hotel companies that go the extra mile to protect the environment.
In addition to Green Key, we focus on supporting local initiatives such as Rudda Føroyar, the Faroese version of World Cleanup Day. It brings together local volunteers to free the Faroese nature from waste and litter.
Whenever we need to replace or renovate our hotel, we make a conscious effort to incorporate new green measures based on our strong sustainable foundation, in accordance with the Green Key criteria.
Our goal is to continuously optimize our routines and procedures, as well as our products and services. In order to reduce our environmental impact:
- all new technical installations must be in the Green Key spirit,
- all our existing and future products must be environmentally friendly,
- We seek active partnerships with community organizations working for the environment,
- we have set up a common suggestion box for eco-responsible ideas.
