This village of 2,000 inhabitants is home to a modest-looking monastery founded in 1504 by Ștefan cel Mare, then decorated in 1530 under Petru Rareș. The church, small, massive, towerless and typically Moldavian, often features in tourist books and on postcards. Its sobriety and simplicity are in stark contrast to other buildings in Bucovina. It has suffered much damage over the course of its history, but renovation in 1975 restored it to its original appearance (no tower). How to get there: 25 kilometers southeast of Iași, slightly off the Vaslui road.
