Further down the valley, which narrows at this point, Strâmtura is a charming, long village of 3,200 inhabitants, known for its costumes, sheep farming and numerous wooden houses. Its wooden church was brought here in 1661 from the monastery of neighboring Rozavlea. The latter, a large and less charming village, remains an interesting stopover to discover a wooden church dating from 1717, with attractive interior paintings. Its iconostasis was designed by Ioan Plohod. A little higher up in the mountains, Glod, an isolated village that has remained very traditional, also boasts a wooden church dating from 1700, with brightly-colored frescoes.
