From its success during the Austro-Hungarian period, the spa has retained some fine 19th-century houses and attractive buildings, such as the Vieux Palais des Bains (1898), the Palais Unirea and the casino (both 1896), the railway station (1902) and a beautiful Moorish-style synagogue. Its vast park, laid out in 1862, is planted with beech and fir trees, amid which gushes a mineral spring, marked by a castle-like building. Finally, the town boasts an interesting ethnographic museum (strada Eminescu 17, Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
