GREAT RIVER - BAMBOO RAFTING
The famous Jamaican rafting trip - in fact, a bamboo raft trip - is a classic of Jamaican culture that we recommend you take here, if you're in Montego Bay. It's one of our favorites, less spectacular than the Rio Grande in Port Antonio, but nonetheless charming, as the river is buried in vegetation, you pass under veritable tunnels of leaves and bamboo, and the river is shallow. A magical cruise on the emerald-green Great River. The surroundings are magnificent, and the forest is revealed in all its beauty. The trip is offered by the Chukka agency, but also by independent captains who offer better prices (you can negotiate, but know that the work is hard). You'll be enchanted by the rafts, which are long and stretched over 4 to 9 meters, equipped with a comfortable double bench seat and decorated with palms and fresh flowers. On the way down, you're accompanied by chirping birds, the gurgling of the river, and the reggae - always - pulsating from your raft and others you meet along the way (selling beer, rum...). The guides, relaxed and in good spirits, talk endlessly about their forest. The atmosphere is authentic, especially at weekends, when groups of friends come to bask in the river. The must - included in the price - is the "limo on the river", a relaxing foot and leg massage using "limestone", a clay-like limestone.
