TUFF GONG STUDIOS
A must-visit recording studio, one of the best in Jamaica, with sampling room, mastering room...
Ziggy Marley has taken up his father's torch and runs the Tuff Gong Studio recording studios, named after reggae superstar Bob Marley. It is located in a warehouse area near the sea, while the original studio was in Bob Marley's house. Today, it's one of the best recording studios in Jamaica, but not only that: the studios also boast a sampling room and a mastering room. Many Jamaican artists (Israel Vibration, Sizzla, Horace Andy...), as well as international stars (Alpha Blondy, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Youssou N'Dour...) have produced from these doors. It's fascinating to visit the studios that are still in use today, and the vinyl press with its ageless machines where a few CDs are produced! As Bob wanted to make music accessible to all, studio rental is the same (reasonable) price for superstars and small bands alike. Outside, there's a boutique selling Tuff Gong productions, an ideal place to unearth the rarity, old or new, of a limited edition to enrich the reggae lover's collection. Unfortunately, vinyl records are in short supply, so we'll be bringing back a few 45s for a souvenir.
On Sundays, the Studio and Rassallera organize their "after dinner sundayz" from 6 p.m. to midnight, right in the heart of the courtyard, events where locals and tourists alike gather to enjoy the latest reggae-dancehall riddims.
