VALE ROYAL
A sumptuous residence built by Sir William Taylor in Kingston, the current home of Jamaica's Prime Minister.
Built in the early 18th century by the country's richest man, Sir William Taylor, this sumptuous mansion was known as Prospect Pen. It belonged to several generations of a family of slave-owning planters who were ruined when slavery was abolished. The property was bought by the British colonial government in 1928, before becoming the residence of the Prime Minister of Jamaica, where departmental employees still work, despite its deteriorated facade. A renovation plan by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust is in the pipeline.
