The Chongnyon Hotel (literally Youth Hotel) is one of the few hotels in Mangyongdae district to be open to foreigners. The hotel, built in 1989 and recently renovated in a very kitsch style, is said to have 465 rooms on 30 floors, and has a karaoke room, a sauna, an outdoor swimming pool with a slide (locals can use the pool by paying an entrance fee, which is lucky to be able to use it).
The hotel is not very popular with foreigners, but it is possible to go there, with a trip organized directly by an agency. It's a good alternative to more expensive establishments: the hotel is rated "first class" by travel agencies, the second best category after "deluxe-class" hotels like the Yanggakdo and the Koryo.
