ÉCOLE CONFUCIANISTE

It was a local school that introduced young people to Chinese letters in order to prepare them for the national competitive examination for civil servants (gwa-geo). There is an altar dedicated to Confucius and his disciples, where the tablets of Choe Ji-won, a famous scholar from Silla, are also kept. Another older hyanggyo is located in the north, the Bupyeong Hyanggyo, built under Goryeo and rebuilt in 1636 after the Manchu invasions at the foot of the Gyeyangsan.
