Institute divided into 3 centers, including one with a photographic and music collection, a library and a picture gallery
The institute, founded in 1992 by wealthy banker and ambassador Walther Moreira Salles (father of filmmaker Walter Salles), is dedicated to developing cultural programmes. Divided into three centres (São Paulo, Rio and Poços de Caldas in Minas Gerais), its collection consists of 550,000 photographs, 100,000 musical works, a library of 400,000 documents and a picture library with 3,000 works. In São Paulo, in its vast space in Higienópolis, high-level temporary exhibitions are presented to the public throughout the year.
