KAISERWERTH DISTRICT
Peaceful district featuring a pretty monastery with its Suitbertus basilica and the ruins of Frederick 's imperial castle.
In this peaceful village district north of Düsseldorf city center, on the banks of the Rhine, you'll find an attractive monastery with its 11th-century Suitbertus basilica, as well as the ruins of the imperial castle of Frederick I, aka Barbarossa. In the 19th century, the monastery was home to an important hospital belonging to the Protestant community of deaconesses. A relaxing excursion under the chestnut trees along the Rhine, with a direct subway link from the main station. It's worth noting that what was once a locality only became part of Düsseldorf in 1929.
