OLD CITY
Visit the Heinrich Heine house, town hall, castle, terraces and Japanese center.
Stroll through the streets of the old town... Starting from Blockerstrasse, you will discover the house where Heinrich Heine, one of the greatest German poets, was born in 1797. The town hall was badly damaged during the Second World War. In the adjoining square, Jan Wellems, the elector who contributed to the development of the city, is enthroned. Of the original castle on Burgplatz, only one tower remains, the rest having been destroyed in a great fire in 1872. Take a walk along the Rhine on the Rheinuferpromenade, a popular walk for the people of Düsseldorf, where in summer terraces fight for space. Near the train station, Immermannstrasse is the Japanese center of Düsseldorf, which has the largest community of Japanese islanders after London (7,000 members). Due to the presence of large Japanese companies, there are restaurants, supermarkets and even a temple of the Empire of the Rising Sun..
