TRIERER DOM - KATHEDRALE ST. PETER
Ancient Roman cathedral founded in 320 AD by an emperor, with gigantic pillars, light-colored vaults and an organ.
Trier Cathedral is the oldest cathedral in Germany and was founded in the year 320 by Emperor Constantine. Its architecture bears witness to its Roman origin. Recent excavations have shown the role played in its construction by Constantine's mother, Helen. The gigantic size of its pillars, the clarity and harmony of its vaults make this cathedral one of the wonders of Romanesque art. In the same genre, the incredible organ set, dating from 1974, is very impressive. The cathedral's treasure chamber, located in the choir, can be visited at regular times. Among its most precious relics is the priceless Holy Tunic brought back from Jerusalem, it is said, by Constantine's mother. On the right, a beautiful, quiet cloister, very well maintained, where the prelates are buried.
riche en sculpture et objet d'art religieux.
Très beau cloître à coté de l'édifice accessible depuis l'intérieur de la cathédrale.
