This Romanesque basilica, built on the remains of a Roman palace, is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Basilica of Constantine is one of Trier's most astonishing Roman remains. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this basilica was built on the remains of a Roman palace under Emperor Constantine in the 4th century AD. The fortress reflects early Romanesque architecture, and the various stages of its construction show the Roman core in the central part. The western part is Romanesque (11th century), the choir dates from the 12th century, and the Baroque chapel and dome date from the 18th century.
