Read moreIt is an artificial lake built in the years 1934-1936, at the location of an ancient marsh region. This project, already on the agenda of the city of the Weimar Republic (1918-1933), was taken over by the Nazis, mixing the cult of great works, the happiness of the people through work, healthy entertainment and patriotic art. The very controversial column and sculpture standing on the shore of the lake is a memory of this period: at the base of the column, the threatening eagle of Germany, and the empty circle of the swastika.
