Osnabrück (160 000 inhabitants), the largest centre in the southwest of Lower Saxony, has lost its old splendour. It was devastated during the Second World War (94% of the old town was destroyed). But the streets have been reconstructed on the historical drawing and the main monuments reconstructed in the same way. The old town is pretty pretty and can be the subject of a pleasant stage. The student atmosphere adds to the charm and there are some visits that deserve a stop. The origins of Osnabrück date back to Charlemagne's time after his victory over Duke Saxon Widukind in 783. From the Middle Ages, the city experienced some prosperity through its accession to the Hanseatic League. In Osnabrück, the preambles to the Treaty of Westphalia were held, which ended the Thirty-Year War.
