ALTONALE

Every year in June, Altona has a big stir with its Altonale festival. It is a street festival, a kind of carnival, with parades, costumes, music, markets, etc. Every year, 500,000 people gather in the center of Altona, on the Platz der Republik, to celebrate a moment of openness and tolerance. This is also where Hamburg's largest flea market is held. Several venues in the vicinity will host various cultural program points: music, dance, readings, etc.
