This bridge, topped by houses, is the last remaining example of this type of construction dating back to the Middle Ages.
This bridge is the last remaining example of this type of construction dating back to the Middle Ages. The bridge is raised by houses and crosses the River Gera. Dated 1325, the half-timbered houses date back to the 17th and 19th centuries. From the Rathaus, walk up the central street of this "grocers' bridge". At the end, take the tiny cul-de-sac on the left to discover the amazing character of this building. If you climb to the very top of the bell tower, you'll have a better view of the bridge and the city in general.
