HERZOGIN ANNA AMALIA BIBLIOTEK
After a long period of painstaking restoration and rescue of the books following a fire in 2004, the rococo hall of this superb library reopened its doors to the general public. Of the 50,000 structures in the fire, it is estimated that three-quarters are "replaceable". We succeed in bringing these works back to life, almost reduced to ashes.... It is fascinating to watch the short documentary presented on the spot to understand how to fly to the rescue, treat and rehabilitate a half-burned structure: it is a great art! We work in lace, as if we were treating an injured hummingbird. These books had been collected by the duchess and woman of letters Anna Amalia (1739-1807), who was passionate about literature. Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this sumptuous rococo hall contains extremely rare works, some dating back to 1500. The walls could still bear witness to the passage of certain historical figures: Goethe, Schiller and many other famous personalities who were passionate about literature came to consult these precious volumes.
