MUSEEN IM GRASSI - MUSEUMS OF GRASSI
The Grassi Museum is the main monument of the Johannisplatz, to the east of Augustusplatz, on the edge of Graphisches Viertel. This ethnographic museum is one of the city's major cultural institutions; it reopened its brand new doors a few years ago, by completely rethinking its exhibitions in support of contemporary projects concepts. It actually houses three museums, all fascinating, and hence its exact official name of "museums in the Grassi". Its largest space is the excellent Ethnographic Museum (Museum für Völkerkunde). Dedicated to the world's cultures, views in diversity and contemporary perspectives, it is at the forefront of contemporary teaching techniques. You will also find a fascinating Musical Instruments Museum (Museum für Musikinstrumente), renowned worldwide for its important collection of historic European instruments. Finally, the Grassi houses a museum of applied arts from antiquity to historicism, which is simply one of Germany's best.
