The origins of this museum in the impressive ethnographic collections date back to the collections of Auguste I in 1560. From the th century, under the influence of the Enlightenment, the princes of Saxony enriched the enrichment in a systematic way, according to precise scientific criteria. The opening of the museum as such date of 1875. Indonesian boats dating from the th century, daggers javanaises, richly decorated beams from micronésiennes houses, ritual objects or daily newspapers from Africa, Oceania, America, Australia… this museum is a real journey around the world! Don't miss the sumptuous Damascus room and the Middle east textile collections.
