SCHLOSS SCHWERIN (CASTLE OF SCHWERIN)

Once the residence of the Dukes and Grand Dukes of Schwerin, this multi-styled building stands on an island. Its current appearance is the work of the architect Demmler, who transformed it between 1843 and 1857 on the model of the Château de Chambord. Schwerin Castle is one of Germany's finest examples of eclectic architecture, and the details of its facades are truly fascinating. It now serves as the seat of the state parliament.
