GLENSHEEN
British style house on the shore of Lake Superior, turned into a museum in 1979 with a collection of original furniture
Chester Congdon had this imposing British-style mansion built in 1908 on the shore of Lake Superior. It was donated to the University of Duluth in 1968 and became a museum in 1979. Its special feature is its collection of original furniture dating back to 1908. It also witnessed the murder of Elizabeth (Chester's daughter, who had inherited the house), who was smothered in her sleep, as was her caregiver. The deceased's daughter and her husband were accused for a long time before being acquitted. To this day, the crime remains unsolved.
