THE BASILICA OF SAINT MARY

This superb marble basilica occupies a special place in the country's religious and historical life, as it was the first to be built in the United States. It was built by a French architect, Emmanuel Masqueray, in the Beaux-Arts style. Construction began in 1907, and took almost twenty years to complete. Every Sunday, at the 9:30 a.m. mass, you can watch the 90-member choir in action.
