JACOBSEN MUSEUM
A 1930 wooden house with a collection of artifacts relating to the history of the area and Washington Island.
The Jacobsen Museum, nestled on the edge of Little Lake on Washington Island, is a charming museum restored in 1931 by self-taught Danish immigrant and carpenter Jens Jacobsen. Built with his own hands from vertical logs, it displays an eclectic collection of local artifacts: fossils, rocks, native tools, hand-carved ship models, handcrafted furniture and pieces from shipwrecks, including a large rudder salvaged from a shipwreck on the lake. This small, authentic museum offers a vivid glimpse into the island's past and the lives of its pioneers.
