ADLER PLANETARIUM
Chicago's oldest planetarium developed for the military and researchers suggesting an exciting and immersive visit.
Would you like to take a trip through our galaxy, surrounded by planets, stars and meteorites? The Adler Planetarium was the first planetarium built on the North American continent, in 1930. Architecturally speaking, it is distinguished by its twelve faces adorned with the signs of the zodiac, each side engraved with a different symbol. Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors come here to probe the mysteries of our universe, from the solar system to distant galaxies.
Be amazed by the Atwood Sphere, Chicago's oldest mechanical planetarium, designed in 1913, or discover the latest missions to Mars and how the Mars Rover works. Numerous interactive kiosks and fun experiments, suitable for all ages, punctuate the visit. You can even create an impact crater or explore the sky as seen from different civilizations, thanks to the permanent exhibition "Bringing the Heavens to Earth".
The Adler has recently been modernized, with immersive shows in the Sky Theater and Definiti Theater, featuring high-definition films on topical themes such as the discoveries of the James Webb Space Telescope, Martian exploration and the Northern Lights.
Finally, don't leave without taking advantage of the cafeteria: take a seat facing Lake Michigan and admire the splendid view of Navy Pier and Chicago's north side. A fascinating visit, not to be missed, even if you're not an astronomy enthusiast!
