Commissioned by the architects of the Richard Daley Center, the unnamed sculpture, nicknamed "The Chicago Picasso", was presented by the artist to the city in 1967. Although Picasso never came to Chicago, several of his preparatory sketches are on display at the Art Institute of Chicago. The sculpture is made of the same metal as the façade of the Daley Center. Picasso never specified what the work represents, leaving it open to interpretation: some see a woman with her hair blowing in the wind, one of the sculptor's pets, an angel, even a cow...
