Gothic skyscraper built as a result of a nationwide architectural competition with 263 firms participating.
The Tribune Tower, one of Chicagoans' favorite buildings, was until 2018 the historic headquarters of the Chicago Tribune, founded in 1847. Erected in 1925 following a national architectural competition that attracted more than 260 entries, it was designed by New York architects John Mead Howells and Raymond Hood, whose neo-Gothic project won out over designs for Roman temples, pyramids and obelisks.
A fascinating feature of the building is that its facades incorporate fragments of famous monuments from around the world. These include stones from the Cheops Pyramid, Reims Cathedral, Rome's Colosseum, Petra and Beijing's Forbidden City. Even a piece of lunar rock, added after the Apollo missions, is visible here, symbolizing the link between earthly heritage and modern conquests.
After serving as the Chicago Tribune's headquarters until 2018, the Tribune Tower underwent a major renovation. Since 2022, it has been transformed into luxury residences and apartments, under the name Tribune Tower Residences, while retaining its architectural prestige. Commercial spaces also occupy the lower levels. The newspaper, meanwhile, has left the tower, and its teams are now spread across other offices in the city.
Nearby, the NBC Tower, built in 1989, still houses the television studios. As for WGN Radio, its historic studios, once visible from the street in Tribune Tower, moved in 2018.

Située à l'entrée de la Magnificent Mile, il signe l'entrée dans le temple du shopping. Il est amusant de faire le tour du building pour découvrir les différentes pierres incrustée dans sa façade.
