THE MARQUETTE BUILDING
Beautiful lobby with large mosaics inside benefiting from a structure of metal beams and columns.
The Marquette Building is a fine example of the golden age of the Chicago School of Architecture. Designed by Holabird & Roche and completed in 1895, it features a metal structure whose design remains visible from the outside, characteristic of early skyscrapers. Inside, the lobby pays tribute to explorer Jacques Marquette. It features superb mosaics by the Tiffany studio, as well as bronze bas-reliefs by Hermon Atkins MacNeil, recounting Marquette's expedition through the Great Lakes region.
