CHICAGO BOARD OF TRADE
Chicago's 45-story stock exchange with a 9.5-meter statue at the top of the tower representing the Goddess of the Harvest.
Founded in 1848, the Chicago Board of Trade is one of the oldest stock exchanges in the world. In 1930, it moved into the famous Art Deco skyscraper on Jackson Boulevard, designed by architects Holabird & Root. At the time, it was the tallest building in Chicago. At the very top, the 9.50-metre aluminum statue of Ceres, goddess of the harvest, by sculptor John H. Storrs. Her face was not sculpted: at this height, Storrs thought no one would ever be able to make it out.
