THE MONADNOCK BUILDING
The highest building in the world, without the help of metal frames, with brick walls 1.80 m thick.
It's an iconic building, known for marking the transition between traditional masonry architecture and the beginnings of steel-framed skyscrapers. Its northern section, completed in 1891, is famous for being one of the last skyscrapers built without a metal structure, with thick brick walls to support all the weight. The southern part, completed in 1893, adopts a more modern metal structure. Take a break at the Intelligentsia Coffee Bar on the first floor.
