CHICAGO WATER WORKS PUMPING STATION
Impressive Chicago Gothic Revival pump house with photographic exhibits
The old pump house is one of the only buildings to survive the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Built in 1869 by William W. Boyington in the Gothic Revival style, it stands opposite the equally impressive Water Tower across North Michigan Avenue. The pumping station, long since decommissioned, drew water from Lake Michigan one mile away. Its future use has not yet been determined. The Water Tower is however regularly opened for photographic exhibitions.
