This legendary bar frequented by Al Capone during Prohibition has been a local favorite jazz club since 1917.
A legendary jazz club in the Uptown district, the Green Mill is recognizable by its green neon storefront and its ambience, unchanged since the days of Prohibition. Frequented by Al Capone, who watched over the entrance from his favorite seat near the bar, the place is shrouded in mystery, including the supposed existence of coal tunnels linking neighboring theaters to smuggle liquor. Even today, people come here for its unique atmosphere and its live jazz concerts, some of the best in Chicago.
