Only 1 bartender at an event that filled the bar waited 20 minutes to even be acknowledged....the kicker they were out of everything except cpl brands of beer
We were at The British for a birthday party and stayed the night in one of the hotel rooms. The staff were very kind and friendly, and the food at the party was very good! The poutine bar was definitely a highlight! The hotel room was very nice, and modern and the bed was very comfortable!
Had an amazing experience at the British! Loved the contactless check in and the parking rates. Would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting the area!
Go elsewhere. Especially at the cost they charge.
We stayed here in early Oct for two nights (Prince of Wales suite). The building is beautiful and the room seemed nice on first glance, but once you peel back the spider webs (literally) you can see it is not well maintained.
No glassware in the rooms - when I asked at the front desk for water glasses and wine glasses, I was ushered to the bar to pick some up myself. Explanation for the no glassware from the front desk was "we don't include it as people tend to steal our glassware".
Parking - parking is advertised as being free - but only for those who are parking on the street. So that was a bit of a bait and switch. If you want the on-premises parking - open your wallet.
I should start charging guests at my home to park in my driveway. Ugh.
Not easy to get luggage to your rooms - no suggestions from front desk at check in on how best to bring your luggage in. No ramps to wheel luggage up the many steps to the elevator lobby area. Not a big deal, but if you are staying multiple nights and you have a cooler with you - not easy.
Robes - my partner specifically left her robe at home as the suite was advertised to include robes. When we arrived there were none. My partner called down and inquired about the missing robes. She was informed that robes are not included with the rooms and we don't have any. When she kindly informed them that this was advertised with the suite package - they magically appeared in 15 minutes.
Food/Restaurant - Stay away. All I can say. Go dine elsewhere if you are choosing to stay here. There is a nice authentic Mexican restaurant just up the road (walking distance).
Bon service, on nous a conseillé du debut et nous a accompagné jusqu'à la fin. Endroit très propre et éclairé. Très bel expérience pour les groupes et réception. Je recommande. Endroit charmant au coeur du Vieux Aylmer.
I have every reason to give this place a 5 star. The British is the soul of aylmer. I pride myself on supporting local and small business. In recent times, the inflation of prices has resulted in this business to close its doors. Anyone living in this time would understand. What I can’t forgive is having their employees tossed to the curb. No warning, no options. It’s unacceptable and it’s not aylmer and it’s inhumane. When you have a community that supports your business and this is how you treat your employees it’s deplorable. I, and I hope others will follow suit in boycotting this business.
When the restaurant was open, the food was terrible. Management closed down without notice and left dozens of people living paycheque-to-paycheque scrambling to make ends meet without severance.
This place bring so much memory. So one the food was great I had a burger and my son had a pizza. Now for my the burger is self was perfect. The bun wasn't dry nor soggy (full of grease or whatever). The mix of condiments with the flavor-I has maple burger I believe it's a house burger- was cooked right. Not over cooked so it becomes like a sponge. . . I had a side of sweet potato frie and the spicy sauce was just right not to hot . For ths pizza though. I glad that they use a home sauce . But the crust could use some tlc. It was a but burnt and was a bit hard to chew.. almost felt like past bread that was left to air out... the service was excellent overall i would go back anytime as a matter of fact my son asked me when we can go back...
Unique in that is one of the few stone buildings left, and they got live bands Saturdays and people can dance. Food at the bar is quite good, large selection of drinks, and good service.
Me and my girlfriend shared a chicken wrap and it was enough to sustain us for the walk we did. The restaurant is a 15 to 20 minute walk from the beach and is a good place to relax.
My husband and I unfortunately have to take a pause from eating here. More often than not, the food is dry, undercooked, or overcooked. We love the atmosphere and the servers, but can't keep spending money on low quality food. Hopefully enough reviews of the food turn things around. We'll try again in a few months.

Très copieux et très bons
A pitcher of Sangria and they charged us $38 + tax… Dang!! Did I buy 2 the bottles of wine lol.. wasn’t even that good.
The food isn’t much better… nachos are piled on with barely no sauce or cheese… had more chips than anything.
Don’t go and save your money.
Found some sort of stuffing
and little fish in shell
Shame on you British. The réal Britishers would be insulted
Food was bland and over cooked.
Will not be back
