The largest national park in Canada by area, Wood Buffalo (44,807 km2) straddles the border between the Northwest Territories and Alberta. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is home to the largest free-roaming herd of bison in America. They are often seen in a spectacular natural environment consisting of salt plains and a delta (the largest inland delta in the world) at the mouth of the Peace and Athabaska rivers.
