PAPINEAU-LABELLE WILDLIFE RESERVE
Wildlife reserve with lakes and rivers in Duhamel, ideal for sport fishermen and outdoor activity lovers.
Réserve faunique de Papineau-Labelle (1,628 km²) was created in 1971 to facilitate access to hunting, fishing and outdoor activities for all Quebecers. It owes its name to Louis-Joseph Papineau, the great orator and politician, and to Antoine Labelle, parish priest of Saint-Jérôme, nicknamed the King of the North. The reserve is home to a wealth of wildlife, including a high density of white-tailed deer, moose and beaver. There are some 740 lakes and 30 or so rivers and streams, abounding in a diverse range of aquatic fauna, to the delight of anglers. It's a place that's full of attractive sites to marvel at.
Wildlife: moose, white-tailed deer, wolf, beaver, fox, bear, and several species of birds including ruffed grouse, lake trout, bass, walleye, brook trout, moulac and northern pike.
Lodging: isolated cottages (some accessible by water only), rustic camps, ready-to-camp tents, camping.
Equipment rentals: watercraft (canoes, kayaks, rowboats, etc.), life jackets, ice, bait and lure sales, hunting and fishing licenses.
Activities: water sports, canoe-camping, moose, white-tailed deer, small game and black bear hunting, wildlife observation, forest gathering, fishing (daily and overnight, fishing-camping packages), hiking. Dog sledding with independent companies.
