Museum focused on mining, minerals and earth sciences. A return to the origins of our planet through a unique collection of over 350 minerals. The permanent exhibition, Memories of Stone, Pride and Excess of a Region, explores the many facets of this region that mined asbestos from 1876 to 2011. Interactive games, multimedia presentations and the heritage mining tour will satisfy your curiosity. Educational programs for schools are also available.
KB3 Mining Tour: Discover the history of this cradle of the mining industry, the place where the "cotton stone" was discovered, the anecdotes that punctuated its evolution, the King family empire, the underground operations, the fire, the smelting... You will visit the historical buildings such as the forge, the winch building and the headframe building. The observatory is located at the top of the headframe and offers a 360° view of the city of Thetford Mines. Then comes the new underground gallery and its new immersive exhibition Descendre dans le temps (Going back in time ) showing the evolution of mining techniques, work equipment and safety standards at the beginning of the last century. You can also have a guided tour by a former mine worker. It's hard to get more authentic than that! A truly unique visit that will appeal to young and old alike!
