Oujé-Bougoumou, which in Cree means "the place where people gather", is an aboriginal community nestled on the shores of Lake Opémiska. The nation has inhabited the area for a long time, but the village is rather recent: the Oujé-Bougoumou Cree had to leave it seven times to make way for mining activities. Today, the village is renowned for its cultural institute, arts and crafts, accommodation, traditional meals and activities, and guided tours. The community has also received a UNESCO award for its sustainable construction and traditional architecture.
