81 km southeast of Medicine Hat, Cypress Hills Provincial Park is the second largest park in Alberta. Open year-round, it extends into the prairies, earning it the name Rocky Mountain Forest. Although the park is quite remote, it is home to a variety of wildlife (elk, deer, etc.), typical of the Rocky Mountains, and a wide variety of orchids that are worth a visit. The lodgepole pine ("cypress", which has nothing in common with our cypress) adorns all the trails and mountains of the park. There are many activities and hiking trails to suit all levels. Camping is possible, provided you have a permit.
